Addiskidan Getachew

Athlete in Action Team Leader

Addiskidan Getachew Abraham serves as the Ministry Team Leader for Athletes in Action, bringing dedication and passion to her role. As the firstborn in a family of two sisters and five brothers, she bears significant responsibilities in caring for her family, especially her parents. Raised in a Christian household with a preacher father, Addiskidan's upbringing instilled in her a deep faith and a sense of responsibility towards others.

Having been associated with the Great Commission Ministry for over five years, Addiskidan now serves as a full-time staff member. Her educational background includes an advanced diploma in accounting, a bachelor's degree in community development, and she is currently completing her M.A. degree at AMBS.

In her role, Addiskidan is fully responsible for all aspects of Athletes in Action ministry. She has successfully trained athletes on mindset and character, maintained relationships with regional coaches, and leveraged partnerships with organizations like the Ethiopian Athletics Federation to spread the gospel.

What Addiskidan enjoys most about her work is encountering individuals with a willingness to listen to the gospel and humble hearts. Outside of work, she indulges in hobbies such as gospel singing, poetry editing, and counseling.

A memorable experience for Addiskidan was witnessing individuals, previously skeptical about believers, experience a change of heart and express a desire to accept Jesus as their savior. This reaffirmed her belief in the power of living out the gospel through actions and training.

Addiskidan finds motivation in the unity of the Holy Spirit and the voice of God, recognizing her dependence on Him for guidance and strength. When faced with challenges, she turns to prayer and meditation, seeking divine wisdom and discussing solutions with her team. Looking ahead, Addiskidan aims to continue proclaiming the gospel and making disciples, while also pursuing specific goals tailored to the ministry's needs.

For aspiring professionals in her field, Addiskidan advises focusing on four main areas: thinking, finances, behavior and character, and spirituality, drawing from her experience as a counselor. Additionally, she takes on additional responsibilities within the ministry, including fundraising efforts to support various initiatives.

Prioritizing work-life balance, Addiskidan emphasizes the importance of personal time with God and self-care, followed by service to others. Colleagues or clients seeking collaboration or assistance can reach out to her after assessing the urgency of the matter, ensuring effective time management and commitment to her primary responsibilities while remaining available to serve those in need.
