Biographies of our founders, Bill and Vonette Bright.
I come from a big and wonderful family of nine children. I am the youngest one. My name is Saron Yohannes, and I was born in Durame, a small town in Ethiopia, on August 4th. I have been a Christian since I was a child. My parents are both ministers who love God and serve him faithfully.
I grew up watching and admiring their relationship with Jesus. Then I began to know God personally. I had a joyful childhood with my parents and siblings, and I am so grateful for all of them. I went to primary and secondary school in Durame. Then I graduated from Wachemo University with a BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering in July 2019. In the 5th year, we had a 4-month internship program. I prayed to God for direction on where to work, and then I heard about the Great Commission Ministry Ethiopia, digital strategy, from my friends. They work on fulfilling the Great Commission digitally. Then I submitted my application, and they welcomed me to join them, I was thrilled to get this opportunity, because I love God and want to serve his kingdom. I realized that I could use my skills for God’s glory, as Jesus commanded us to preach the gospel.
I have been working in the Great Commission Ministry Ethiopia, Digital Strategies, in various roles since my internship. I feel that I am making a difference for God’s kingdom, and I want to give my best. My aim is to share Christ’s love with the world around me. I am always eager to do this, both online and in person. This verse from Philippians 1:21 became the guiding principle of my life: “For me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” God showed me the meaning of this word in various ways. I started to think about what Jesus did when he was on earth. I saw that he shared the good news, and I wanted to do the same. I am not afraid of death because I know I will be with my Lord. This is the truth that I have chosen to live by for the rest of my life.
